GrainStore Elevators is a locally owned family business that operates country grain elevators in west-central Illinois. With facilities located in Knox, Warren, Mercer and Henry counties, our elevators provide grain drying, storage and merchandising to area farmers. GrainStore began operations as Galesburg Order Buyers, Inc., in January of 1944. We operated hog buying stations in Illinois and Iowa until the early 1980's. Our StockYards Feed Store division, which sells hog and cattle feed to area farmers, began in the early 1950's and continues to this day. We acquired our first grain elevator in Alexis, Illinois in 1962. Since that time we have grown to one of the largest grain elevators in western Illinois.
GrainStore currently operates eight full service facilities with a total capacity over 14.5 million bushels of storage for corn and soybeans. We also operate a grain receiving station near Wataga, Illinois used each fall for the further convenience of area farmers. Because the company's facilities are located between two of the nations most important rivers, the Illinois and Mississippi, and near major corn and soybean processing plants, we have the ability to access a variety of markets throughout the year.
GrainStore is an Illinois licensed grain warehousemen and grain dealer, as well as an approved USDA warehouse. The licenses are subject to annual audits by the State of Illinois. GrainStore is a member of the National Grain & Feed Association and the Grain & Feed Association of Illinois. We also participate in the Illinois Grain Insurance Corporation, which insures grain in storage at Illinois licensed warehouses.
In addition to grain services, GrainStore also offers feed to area producers. We have been a dealer for Kent Feeds for over 40 years.
COMMUNITY COMMITMENT
GrainStore has long been committed to supporting a variety of local charities and youth organizations. We have supported local 4-H and FFA since our founding. We also actively support various local and civic organizations including area churches, schools, YMCA's, and hospitals. We encourage all employees to be active in local community organizations and volunteer groups.
VALUE-ADDED GRAINS AND SPECIALTY MARKETS
We pride ourselves on offering our farmer customers the best service available. We are committed to identifying specialty programs that may utilize identity preserved crops. As such programs become available, we work with our customers to see if they fit into their individual marketing plans. GrainStore participates in the following Specialty programs: High-Oil Corn for Buyer's Call delivery to river terminals. Cargill "Century Corn" Program (Pioneer Corn Hybrids). Non-GMO markets for non-GMO corn and soybeans off of the farm.
GENETICALLY-ENHANCED CROPS DIRECT AND ON-FARM PICK-UP OF GRAIN
We believe that genetically enhanced crops are an important tool in agricultural production. Beginning with the 2005 harvest, we will accept hybrids of yellow corn that have been approved by the USDA for food and feed use. As it may be necessary to segregate GMO varieties not yet approved for export to the European Union, we may require that you notify us of such varieties prior to unloading at our facilities. Please view our GMO Policy page for further information.
GrainStore Elevators also brokers cash crops direct from the farm to the processor and river terminal markets. In addition, GrainStore often contracts for on-farm pickup of corn and soybeans. The company owns and operates semi-tractors with hopper bottom trailers that haul grain direct from the farm. The rates vary by location and are competitive with direct sales of grain to the terminals and processors.
